  • 5 Dec 2023
  • 7 Dec 2023
  • Melbourne Connect, Melbourne University

Registration

  • We will visit the Bellbird Picnic area to observe flying foxes fly out. First, we’ll hear about the current management and heatwave sprinkler system, then we’ll have a light dinner and watch the bats leave their roosts for the night. Transport by bus and a pizza dinner are provided.
  • Join us on a fantastic day out on Phillip Island packed with different wildlife management projects. Upon arrival we’ll embark on a Wildlife Cruise to see seals and dolphins and other marine wildlife. We’ll then stop at the Koala Conservation Reserve on Phillip Island and talk about the Koala Management there. Our next stop will be Churchill Island where we will have a demonstration of how detector dogs work. We’ll then have a wonderful 2-course dinner during sunset in the beautiful setting of Churchill Island before we go for some Eastern barred bandicoot spotting. The bus will take us back to Melbourne College, arriving back around 12:00am. What a day!! Bus transfer, all tour fees and a 2-course dinner are included.
  • Join Dr Sally Sherwen (Director of Wildlife Conservation & Science) and Fiona Ryan (Senior Manager – Wildlife Welfare Programs), as they share Zoos Victoria’s experience in the practical application of animal welfare paradigms in wildlife response and management. This three-hour workshop will guide participants through relevant tools and approaches that have been trialled at Zoos Victoria to address various ethical challenges regarding wildlife response and management. We will draw on various case studies relating to marine response, threatened species, and wildlife response during disasters, such as bushfire. Throughout the session, participants will workshop real-world scenarios, drawing on frameworks to guide decision making in each case.
The price includes a light lunch and free entry to the zoo.
